Mary Had A Little Lamb

Mary had a little lamb,
His foot was black as soot,
And into Mary’s bread and jam
His sooty foot he put.

Mary nabbed her little lamb
And poured herself a lager,
“If you do that again,” she said,
“I’ll pop you in the Aga!”
First verse from Geoffrey Wellum, leader of a Spitfi re patrol, identifying himself to base to avoid being mistaken for a German pilot during the Battle of Britain 1940. From his biography First Flight (Penguin 2002).
